I’ve bought and shared multiple copies of this album with family and friends. Mr Eitzels song craft is getting better and better. Long may it continue!5/5(8).

While the result is somewhat low key by Butler's standards, Hey Mr. Ferryman has a sense of drama and a musical depth that puts it in a league with Eitzel's best work, both as a solo act and with American Music Club. This is smart, passionate music, as strong musically as it is lyrically, and like so much of Eitzel's work, if it isn't always hopeful, it's full of a humanity that shines out Price: $

9. The album retains the heartfelt tales of sadness that you would expect from self-deprecating MARK EITZEL in a Folk and pastoral context. Before the album was even recorded, the trip to Greece was deemed in certain quarters as controversial, an ‘unnecessary excursion’ with cries of ‘sacrilege’ buoyed on by a skewered conception of Greek music, thus expecting a ‘freak novelty’.
